The term “sleep apnea” can be a very scary term and one that can bring up all kinds of negative thoughts. Well-meaning friends can also turn you off. But the simple and honest truth is that the machines aren’t huge, they aren’t overly noisy (certainly quieter than snoring), and even though you may need a machine to provide you with oxygen, it is an incredibly necessary treatment if you are stopping breathing during the night. Sleep apnea can cause you to stop breathing many many many times during the night which means your brain and body don’t receive enough oxygen which then leads to some major issues as life goes on. Simply put, Sleep apnea is a medical condition that requires medical intervention. With an open attitude, we will work together to ensure you get the best treatment and walk every step with you along the way. Take the first step – see your doctor and get a referral to either have a sleep study done or go to a sleep physician that you can trust and then lets walk this journey and see you start to feel better – results can vary so focus on my leading and your own trust in yourself and walk into a new path.

What to do next:

  • Make an appointment with your GP to see them and discuss how you are feeling and what they suggest. You have every right to ask about sleep apnea and to ask to do the sleep study and/or be referred on to a sleep physician – its so important to take care of your sleep health.
  • If you have a referral for a home based sleep study through CPAP Tasmania, give me a call or come in and we will put aside one afternoon to go over the kit and then you go home with the kit and how to put all the various electrodes etc. If you have a referral to go to a sleep physician, place the call asap as they are very busy and will need time to fit you in. You can also get a referral from your GP to already begin a CPAP trial which is a trial of a CPAP machine and mask to see how you feel while you may be waiting to see a specialist. Any questions please call me.
  • Depending on the results, you begin your journey with me asap where I can focus on following the doctors instructions and I spend all the time necessary to ensure you stay on track. It can get hard at times but remember – this sleep apnea treatment will save many lives and I want YOU to be one of them !
